NJSHINE is responsible for overseeing the overall security and privacy of the Protected Health Information (PHI) that is available in the Patient and Provider portals. To provide this oversight, NJSHINE developed Policies and Procedures that require all participating Providers (Participants) to adhere to information security and privacy requirements. NJSHINE’s role with respect to Protected Health Information to which Participants gain access is to

  • Provide overall guidance to Participants, and
  • Institute appropriate programs to support Participants in their compliance responsibilities.

NJSHINE conducts regular assessments to identify potential improper use of NJSHINE for evaluation and, as appropriate, further investigation. Additionally, we have established a hotline that will enable individuals to report use of NJSHINE for suspicious or inappropriate access to Protected Health Information. Additional information can be found in the Educational Materials under our Policies and Procedures.
